Wakefield Team Volunteers at FareShare Yorkshire

It was great to see members of our Wakefield office take part in volunteering with FareShare Yorkshire, the UK’s longest-running food redistribution charity that redistributes surplus food into meals to other charities and community groups.

Over the last two weeks, ten of our colleagues spent time sorting, picking, and packing food deliveries in FareShare’s Barnsley warehouse, resulting in the re-distribution of over 2,500kg of food (approx. 5000 meals), saving a large proportion from going to waste while helping people facing food scarcity.

Adrian Wightman, Pell Frischmann’s Highways & Transport Technical Director said:

It was a great day spent with my colleagues (Trish and Angie) at the FareShare Yorkshire Head Office & Depot in Barnsley. Our efforts directly contributed to reducing food waste and supporting some of the 350 Yorkshire based charities, community groups and breakfast clubs who work with FareShare. Keeley and Josh, who oversee the warehouse operations, took excellent care of us throughout the day. During our shift, we successfully repackaged orders and redirected the equivalent of 5,000 meals (approx. 10,000kg of food) from waste streams.

Trisha Varghese, Pell Frischmann’s Civil Structures Graduate Engineer said:

It was a fantastic way to connect with colleagues outside of work, building strong relationships while contributing as a team to support communities in need. The day also helped us tackle food wastage, directing it to those who need it most. With the support of the incredible team at FareShare, we were able to make the most of our volunteering day.

Volunteering with FareShare, was a rewarding experience that allowed our volunteers to contribute towards the reduction of food waste, helping both the environment and alleviating hunger among communities.
