Wakefield Team Joins Together to Volunteer at Centenary Riverside
Last week, fifteen members of our Wakefield office took part in a volunteering day with the Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust at one of their sites in Rotherham, Centenary Riverside.
The wetland reserve, located alongside the River Don, features a beautiful meadow bustling with wildflowers and diverse fauna, including several ponds and wetlands. Centenary Riverside also plays a vital role in Rotherham’s flood alleviation scheme granting flood protection to residential and industrial areas.
Volunteering activities included the removal of the invasive plant species, Himalayan Balsam. The management and clearance of this species is essential for creating natural light and space for native plants and wildflowers to bloom and thrive.

Even though we all come from different disciplines within the company, it was fantastic to see everyone working hard together as a team, seamlessly working around or with each other. Looking back after we’d finished, it was quite surprising to see just how much of an area we had covered, so it shows what you can all do together with a bit of effort.
Volunteering with Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust proved to be an ultimate bonding experience for everyone involved and was highly rewarding, especially after seeing the visible results of their efforts.

RSBG’s mission is to generate sustainable funds for the foundation, so our work directly contributes to protecting the environment.
