Hedgerow Planting Day

It was great to see the efforts of ten members from our Wakefield office as they spent the day transforming Parkway Washlands in Rotherham into a vibrant landscape lined with hedgerows.

Volunteers planted various plant species to create a hedgerow approximately 300 metres long, supporting the growth and development of new wildlife habitats. This is part of the wider Rotherham Rivers 3 Restoration Project organised by Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust, which seeks to enhance wetland environments around the river and improve geomorphological and habitat diversity in the area.

Hear from our volunteers about how incredibly rewarding the experience was.

Rosie Walker, our Graduate Transport Planner, said:

“The volunteering day was organised to help contribute towards social value commitments for projects ongoing in Rotherham, whilst also forming part of a wider social value initiative to encourage colleagues to use their volunteering leave on a variety of activities. Overall, the day was really enjoyable and it was really satisfying to see the progress we had made over the course of the day.”

Mark Duquemin, our Head of Environmental Management & Sustainability, said:

“It was great volunteering with colleagues from across the office, helping to improve biodiversity as well as contributing to our social value commitments to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council on several projects, from flood alleviation to improving walking and cycling. A thoroughly enjoyable day!“

Social Value at Pell Frischmann

At Pell Frischmann, we are committed to delivering a positive social value impact on society, the economy and environment within which we work, whilst continuing to provide world-class professional technical services in the built environment.

Pell Frischmann’s Social Value Strategy aims to improve community wellbeing, inclusion, cohesion and empowerment, whilst providing a baseline to measure our ability to contribute sustainably through our regional activities.

By considering social values in all aspects of our business, from a project’s impact on the local region, to all decisions made within the project’s lifecycle, we can play our part in cultivating a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive society.

The aims of our Social Value Strategy align with our ‘Noble Purpose’. In 2015, Pell Frischmann was acquired by RSBG, the patient capital arm of RAG-Stiftung, a foundation with the long-term public purpose to deal with the environmental and social commitments resulting from Germany’s hard-coal mining industry. RSBG’s mission is to generate sustainable funds for the foundation, so our work directly contributes to protecting the environment.
