Space House Shortlisted for WAN Awards 2024

We are thrilled to share that Space House has been shortlisted for this year’s WAN Awards 2024 in the Commercial Buildings – 25,000-50,000sqm category.

The WAN Awards (World Architecture News Awards) are prestigious international awards that recognise excellence in architecture and design. These awards celebrate innovative and outstanding projects across various categories, including commercial, residential, cultural, and sustainable architecture. The awards highlight ground-breaking designs from architects and firms worldwide, showcasing creative solutions and advancements in the field.

Pell Frischmann has worked closely with Seaforth Land and architects Squire & Partners and provided Structural Engineering and underground drainage services for Space House’s refurbishment.

Space House, a 1968 Brutalist landmark designed by George Marsh, Richard Seifert, and C.J. Pell & Partners (now Pell Frischmann), has been transformed into a modern, sustainable workspace. Preserving its iconic cylindrical form and distinctive Y-shaped supports, the redevelopment has minimised its carbon impact, working towards achieving Net Zero targets while repurposing the original structure. The vertical extensions and reimagined core areas have enhanced natural light, elevated workspace quality, and provided breath-taking 360-degree views of London.

On being shortlisted for the award, Divisional Director, Andy Murray, said:

Shortlisted in the Commercial Buildings ranging from 25,000 to 50,000m2 category, Space House nestles amongst a wide range of impressive new build commercial buildings from across the globe. It is really encouraging however, that schemes such as Space House which focus on reuse, retrofit and low carbon interventions, merit shortlisting amongst such worthy competitors.
