Necton Greener Grid Park
The Necton Greener Grid Park is a pioneering project that will help achieve zero-carbon emissions in Britain by increasing the stability of the electricity grid and the amount of renewable energy being delivered onto the grid network. Following local consultation in Spring 2023, a planning application was submitted to Breckland Council, with consent granted in 2024.
What we did
Pell Frischmann prepared a combined Transport Statement and Construction Traffic Management Plan for the application. This reviewed the access arrangements for the site for both the construction and operational phases.
Given the proximity of adjoining development, it was necessary to prepare a temporary access track design from the trunk road to the development site. A suitable access junction was designed by Pell Frischmann, featuring access onto the A47 trunk road.
Detailed discussions were held with Norfolk County Council who removed all objections to the scheme. Further discussions with National Highways highlighted the need for a series of detailed Road Safety Audits.
The comprehensive Road Safety Audits were undertaken independently of the design team and provided to National Highways. Finalised detailed junction design drawings and a comprehensive signage strategy were prepared and approved.

Outcomes
All highway objections to the project, covering both local roads and the trunk road network, were successfully removed. The site is now in construction, with completion due in 2027.

“The development of a stable and modern grid is essential for the development of a low carbon power across the United Kingdom. This project will make a substantial contribution to that aim and we are delighted to have supported Statkraft on the access design and transport planning elements for the scheme.”
