80 Fenchurch Street

A completed, 15-storey building on 80 Fenchurch Street in the heart of the City of London, providing 250,000sqft of modern open-plan office space, rated BREEAM-excellent. In addition to impressive office space, the entrance offers an inviting foyer comprising of retail and health facilities, in addition to a forum.

80 Fenchurch Street has both subtle external and striking internal features. One of the more imposing is the centrally-located atrium which spirals up the building’s floors. In addition, this is topped with a double-height glass box, surrounded by six welcoming landscaped terraces which are elevated at different heights. This gives the building a subtle rippling effect when viewed from afar.

What We Did

After the development itself gained planning permission in 2008, Pell Frischmann was appointed in 2015 to provide multi-disciplinary services in civil, structural and geotechnical engineering. Appointed by YardNine and later novated to Skanska, our teams closely collaborated with Architects TP Bennett to develop this refreshing, modern scheme in the City of London.

To make 80 Fenchurch Street’s striking features possible, Pell Frischmann designed a highly efficient composite steel frame with only a handful of internal columns allowing flexible, breathable spaces. Erected ahead of schedule, the superstructure was significantly under cost plan and meets the LETI 2025 embodied carbon target.

Outcomes

80 Fenchurch Street is as refreshingly alternative and modern in its aesthetics as it is in its functionality for those who occupy it. The office has evolved; it must be a space that offers more than just desks, chairs, wi-fi and a breakout room. It must be a cog in the wheel, operating alongside eateries, cafes and outside spaces to encourage a flexible way of working that makes staff look forward to working in every day.
