Ricardo Pimentel

Divisional Director – Buildings

Ricardo leads the Buildings sector’s research and development team, as well as having responsibilities for project delivery.

He has primary experience in the stability and strength of steel, hybrid and composite structures. His past working experiences were split between detailed design delivery and The Steel Construction Institute (SCI). At the SCI, Ricardo developed guidance to enable the reuse of reclaimed steelwork and was one of the specialist consultants who developed and provided design guidance and training to the UK construction sector.

His design portfolio encompasses a wide range of projects, including industrial buildings, multistorey buildings, life science buildings, sports facilities with long-span roofs, steel and steel-concrete composite bridges and a variety of steel equipment for industrial and offshore activities.

Ricardo has been leading our Net-Zero Carbon Buildings strategy, covering design efficiency to the circular economy. He has also been responsible for delivering Pre-Demolitions Audits to enable the recovery and repurposing of existing components back to the construction market supply chain.

In addition to his project work, Ricardo actively participates in several national and international technical committees, including the British Standards Institution (BSI), the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS), the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) and the Portuguese Institute of Quality (IPQ).
