Pell Frischmann Wins Regional ICE Award

Pell Frischmann is thrilled to announce that the Cottingham and Orchard Park Flood Alleviation Scheme (COPFAS) has won the ICE Yorkshire and Humber Smeaton Award 2020.

In a unique position, the city of Hull is settled on flat land adjacent to the sea and close to sea level, with several surrounding valleys that drain their rainwater into the basin in which Hull city centre sits, thus making the region vulnerable to intense flooding.

In 2007, over 14,000 properties were affected by flooding in Kingston-Upon-Hull.  In order to reduce future flooding, the COPFAS storm-water attenuation project was proposed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to protect the areas of Cottingham and Orchard Park. Built in two phases, the project consisted of the planning, design and on-site engineering consultancy for a system of nine storage lagoons throughout the Raywell Valley and Orchard Park area to retain surface water. Designed and constructed over three years from 2016 to 2019, this scheme is now complete, operational and ready to protect thousands of residents and properties from flooding in Hull and the surrounding areas.
