Pell Frischmann Supports Warrington Borough Council in Securing Planning Approval for Fox Covert Cemetery Extension
Pell Frischmann is pleased to announce that it has successfully supported Warrington Borough Council in achieving planning approval for the proposed extension of Fox Covert Cemetery. The application was recently approved by the Council’s Development Management Committee, subject to conditions.
The extension is a critical step in addressing the pressing issue of limited burial space, with the existing cemetery estimated to have only 5 to 6 years of capacity remaining. The approved development will change the use of approximately 0.63 hectares of greenfield land, located within the Cheshire Greenbelt, from agricultural use to cemetery grounds.
The extension will provide around 596 burial plots, an area designated for the scattering of cremated remains, 25 parking spaces, a perimeter access road, and associated landscaping and sustainable drainage features.
Pell Frischmann, working in close collaboration with landscape architects Gillespies and Warrington Borough Council’s Team Leader Transport & Environmental Improvements, Keith Sanders, and the Cemeteries Team, are playing a key role in navigating the environmental, ecological, and topographical challenges of this sensitive site.
Claire Mason, our Transport Infrastructure Associate, said:
“We have been actively collaborating with Gillespies, and Warrington Borough Council’s Team Leader Transport & Environmental Improvements, Keith Sanders and the Cemeteries Team, to alleviate the current space constraints in Fox Covert Cemetery. The site has many constraints in terms of environment, ecology and topography, and we are extremely pleased to have gained planning approval, subject to conditions, for a site of such sensitive nature. We can now look forward to developing the site through the detailed design stage and onto construction.“
Following this approval, Pell Frischmann will continue to support the project through the preparation of detailed design and tender documentation, leading up to contractor appointment and construction.
