Pell Frischmann Volunteers at Ogden Water Country Park

Last month, colleagues from our Wakefield office volunteered at Ogden Water Country Park in Halifax to support Calderdale Council’s Countryside and Woodlands team with maintenance of the area.

The Country Park is a Yorkshire Water site managed by the Countryside and Woodlands team of Calderdale Council, who are responsible for managing habitats around the reservoir, ensuring the safety of locals and visitors, and caring for the flora and fauna.

Organised by Calderdale Council’s Area Countryside Officer, volunteers arrived at the site at 9:15 am. As part of the itinerary, colleagues participated in park maintenance activities, including tree felling in the woodlands. This allows more light to reach the woodland floor, resulting in a significant increase in biodiversity, which in turn attracts more wildlife.

The Countryside and Woodlands team undertake a wide range of other activities such as woodland management, maintaining footpaths, working on ponds and streams (including clearance and leaky dams), habitat creation, hedge laying, tree planting, controlling invasive species, and rubbish removal.

The site’s team expressed how important volunteer support is in caring for the area and greatly appreciated Pell Frischmann’s assistance on the day.
