Pell Frischmann Shortlisted for ICE Yorkshire and Humber Awards
Pell Frischmann is thrilled to announce that three of its projects have been shortlisted for the Centenary Award by the ICE Yorkshire and Humber Awards 2021.
With a mission to put Civil Engineers “at the heart of society”, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) are a qualifying body that provides knowledge and resources to encourage innovation and excellence in the profession of Civil Engineering. Their Yorkshire and Humber Awards are held every year to showcase the outstanding work done by civil engineers from across the region.
Pell Frischmann is delighted to have been shortlisted for the following schemes:
Cottingham Flood Scheme Phase 2:
- This second phase of the scheme has designed and constructed a total of eight floodwater attenuation reservoirs, inlet & outlet structures and associated works to reduce future flooding in Cottingham following its 2007 flood disaster.
Hessle Foreshore Stabilisation Works:
- The scheme was carried out as emergency works to support a 140m long section of embankment carrying the Hull to Selby Railway Line along the banks of the Humber Estuary. Continued erosion of the foreshore and estuary defences had resulted in the failure of the embankment side slope and imposition of a temporary speed restriction on the only passenger and freight line into the City and Port of Hull. With limited access between the railway embankment and tidal foreshore, the first phase of the scheme saw additional rip-rap placement on the foreshore as an emergency response to limit further erosion, followed by the construction of a contiguous pile wall to provide support to the railway embankment.
Anlaby and East Ella Flood Alleviation Scheme (AEEFAS):
- This scheme was constructed to reduce flood risk to the Anlaby and East Ella areas near Hull which were badly affected by the floods of 2007. Pell Frischmann provided geo-technical and geo-environmental input, which involved the design and construction of a 1.4km long flood 1.8m diameter stormwater tunnel through an environmentally sensitive Chalk aquifer located within a groundwater protection zone, conveying flood water to a large attenuation lagoon.
At Pell Frischmann, our unique ownership structure means that most of our profits go towards funding the perpetual environmental and social obligations resulting from the cessation of hard coal mining. We are proud to have delivered schemes that create value aligned to our noble purpose and sustainable aspirations.
We look forward to celebrating with our clients and partners at the virtual awards ceremony on March 5th 2021.
