Pell Frischmann Highly Commended at ICE West Midlands Awards Dinner
Pell Frischmann recently received ‘Highly Commended’ for our Dudley Parkhead Viaduct project at last week’s ICE West Midlands Awards dinner.
The awards dinner celebrates projects of all sizes and scopes from across the region, as well as individual civil engineering achievements. Every year, the awards are presented to the best civil engineering projects, teams, ground-breaking research or individuals in the region.
Our structures team, working as part of the Midland Metro Alliance, were recognised in the Heritage Award category for our Dudley Parkhead Viaduct. Pell Frischmann developed a detailed design to strengthen and refurbish the structure, ensuring it can accommodate trams and heavy rail in the future.
Through thorough investigations and a rigorous design review process, we applied strengthening measures to retain the structure. Our reuse of the existing structure, sympathetic remedial work, and efficient use of additional material have resulted in a low-carbon solution for our client.
We’re pleased to hear that the M6 J10 project in which we worked as a joint venture with Capita along with John Sisk & Son, Highways England and Walsall Council, won the Education and Inspiration Award Category and was ‘Highly Commended’ in the Team Achievement Category.
Our role on the project saw Pell Frischmann deliver the detailed design and site supervision for the M6 Junction 10 upgrade for Highways England. The £78 million upgrade will create two new bridges to address the poor conditions of the existing bridges and widen the circulatory carriageway, to reduce congestion at the interchange. The scheme will also improve conditions for cyclists and pedestrians using the junction by providing an accessible and integrated network.
Damian Kilburn, Transportation Sector Director said:
We are delighted to receive recognition for our excellent work on the Midlands Metro and M6 Junction 10. The awards highlight our technical excellence and reputation in the West Midlands as we continue to grow our regional presence. Congratulations to our colleagues and our valued partners.
This is a fantastic achievement, and we want to thank everyone who has been involved in these projects. Well done!
