Pell Frischmann Appointed to Improve Road Safety in Chipping Norton
Pell Frischmann is delighted to have been appointed by Oxfordshire County Council to improve road safety and pedestrian access in Chipping Norton.
The scheme will see our team conduct an options appraisal study for the A44 New Street/West Street junction, which consists of a three-arm priority-controlled T-junction on a primary route between Oxford and Evesham. The unconventional layout often leads to confusion among drivers and pedestrians as to who holds priority, which has resulted in several collisions being reported in the past five years, three of which involved pedestrians, including one fatality
Our study looks to identify existing conditions, including a site visit during morning and afternoon peaks and subsequent identification of options to improve road safety by developing alternative junction layouts and improved pedestrian crossing facilities.
These options will be modelled using LinSig for the base, opening, and future years to understand the impact of each proposal. Further appraisal using an agreed set of criteria including a high-level road safety audit will be conducted in addition to a stakeholder workshop to determine the best solution.
The next course of action will involve producing a concept design for the selected option, including high-level costs, a programme, and a carbon assessment.
