Pell Frischmann is delighted to be appointed by the Humber Bridge Board to undertake a Post-Tensioned Special Inspection (PTSI) on the Barton Viaduct of the Humber Bridge. The PTSI will assess the condition of the tendons and anchorages and make recommendations for any further intervention required.
The Humber Bridge has saved many millions of vehicle miles and valuable hours of drivers’ and passengers’ time. It has been an important asset not only for the drivers of commercial vehicles and surrounding communities but also for tourists who would have had to travel around the estuary to reach destinations in the region. The Bridge has also made a significant environmental contribution in reducing vehicle emissions.
Built between 1977 and 1979, the Barton Viaduct carries the A15 directly from the South end of the Humber Bridge, leading towards Barton and the surrounding area. Through the YORconsult2 framework, Pell Frischmann is thrilled to be undertaking the following services:
- Inspections and management of the post-tensioned concrete viaduct;
- Risk Review, Risk Assessment and provide a Risk Management Strategy; and
- Assurance on the safety of the post-tensioned system.
Dr Sas Majlessi, Pell Frischmann’s Highways & Transport Divisional Director, said:
Pell Frischmann looks forward to working with the Humber Bridge Board and partners to provide a high-quality service that supports the continued growth of the Humber Region.

Highways & Transportation
Highways are a means of transporting people and goods safely and efficiently, evolving from routes for people and livestock to the modern roads that include technology as a means of meeting the challenge to reduce carbon usage whilst driving economic growth and social equality.
Pell Frischmann believes that highways and roads are the most important infrastructure globally. Not only is it a functional means of connectivity, it is a symbolic, emotional means too; it connects families across the country by every motorway, dual-carriageway and byway possible.
