Pell Frischmann is thrilled to have been appointed to produce a Strategic Outline Business Case for improving walking, wheeling and cycling routes within the A4540 Ring Road. Working for Birmingham City Council, the scheme looks to provide better connections to public transport interchanges and improve the overall transport infrastructure in Birmingham.

We understand the importance of active travel and the positive impact it can have on communities, the environment and public health. The proposed measures will include:

    • Decluttering street furniture
    • New crossings
    • Removing steps
    • Junction improvements
    • Lighting improvements
    • Segregated cycleways
    • Contraflow cycling
    • Secure cycle storage

Pell Frischmann’s Highways & Transport Technical Director, Nick Young said,

This is a great opportunity for us to continue our work with Birmingham City Council and to improve active travel around the city centre, which has historically been dominated by vehicles.

We’re committed to working closely with stakeholders throughout the project, including cycling and disability groups, local politicians, and transport operators. By collaborating with these groups, we hope to gain valuable insights into their specific needs and requirements, ensuring that the final proposals are inclusive and cater to a diverse range of users.

We look forward to working closely with Birmingham City Council and stakeholders to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for active travel, encouraging more people to take up walking, wheeling and cycling in the city.
