Our 2025 Carbon Neutrality Commitment
Pell Frischmann is proud of its noble purpose. Our ultimate parent, RAG-Stiftung, is a foundation with the long-term public purpose to deal with the environmental and social commitments resulting from the closing of Germany’s hard-coal mining industry. So our profits directly contribute to protecting the environment. We look to embed this noble purpose in the way we operate as a business, the way we design and deliver our projects, and the legacy that we leave behind.
As a consequence, we have committed to becoming a Carbon Neutral business in 2025, as defined by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) and a net zero carbon business by 2040. This work has involved us re-baselining our Carbon Footprint (2019), monitoring our progress and initiating a Carbon Reduction Plan – viewable HERE.
Our total carbon emissions have reduced significantly, by 28.6%, between 2019 and 2021.
The SBTi definitions of Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Carbon are:
- Carbon Neutrality: A reduction in Scope 1 & 2 carbon emissions by 95% against your base year’s emissions with only the final 5% being allowed to be offset.
- Net Zero Carbon: A reduction in total carbon emissions (Scope 1, 2 & 3) of 90% against your base year’s emissions with only the final 10% being allowed to be offset.
Where carbon neutrality is concerned, i.e., Scope 1 & 2 only, we have seen a 56.09% reduction in emissions between 2019 and 2021. These reductions significantly support our journey to becoming carbon neutral business in 2025 and carbon net zero beyond.
