How important are good communication skills for an engineer?

As part of our Engineering Advice Series, our Geotechnical Engineer, Rita Leal, shares why good communication skills are important for an engineer.

Geotechnical Engineering

Our Geotechnical Team has been integral to scheme delivery, beginning with building structure foundation design in 1926. From these early beginnings, our skills have grown to offer expertise in geotechnical engineering and geology covering investigation, assessment, modelling, design and monitoring for HighwaysRailBuildingsLand Development, flood and Water projects across the UK and overseas.

We provide a broad range of geotechnical engineering and geology consultancy and support services including site appraisal and investigation, hazard identification and risk assessment, ground and groundwater modelling and numerical analyses, design of foundations, retaining structures, substructures, soil and rock slopes, slope stabilisation, flood alleviation structures, earthworks and expert reporting.

Led by Andy Gill, our team provides value engineering in construction, managing ground risks and establishing cost-effective geotechnical design solutions for a diverse range of clients across many Sectors, such as: Network Rail, where we have provided emergency ground assessments to safeguard the operational railway following landslips, and Landsec, where we have designed deep-basement solutions for major urban developments. We have used innovative techniques to enable oversite development adjacent to railway corridors, maximising value in constrained environments.
