Georgina Wilson-Cousins Shortlisted for Engineering Student of the Year Award
We’re excited to announce our very own Georgina Wilson-Cousins, a new member of our Structural Engineering Team, has been shortlisted for the Engineering Student of the Year 2021 Award.
Founded by EqualEngineers, the Engineering Talent Awards seeks to celebrate the people and organisations promoting inclusivity and diversity within their field. By highlighting and celebrating their successes and passion for diversity, EqualEngineers strive to inspire others to consider a career in engineering and technology.
The Engineering Student of the Year 2021 Award commends an inspirational student, currently studying for their engineering degree, who actively and engagingly promotes inclusivity within engineering.
Out of the blue, I was contacted by a Chartered Civil Engineer via LinkedIn, who asked for my permission if they could nominate me for the aforementioned award. I was perplexed that such an inspirational female, thought that little old me, who had no prior connections or knowledge of engineering should speak about my experiences. Then I remembered the advice of numerous motivational speakers: say yes. I had no expectations from the nomination, humbled and highly appreciative of the gesture. Thus, upon receiving the LinkedIn shortlist announcement, I chose to celebrate by spending half my day thanking all those that have supported me to get to where I am and study because it all felt so surreal. Through the hardest period that was Covid, to the realisation of the meaning that: ‘with hardships come ease’ and ‘never forget where you’ve come from’.
At Pell Frischmann we are committed to putting Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at the heart of our culture. We are thrilled to see Georgina recognised for her inspirational efforts in promoting inclusivity and diversity within the industry.
The winner will be announced on 9 September 2021 at Leonardo Royal Hotel – fingers crossed!
