Gallows Corner Flyover Refurbishment Shortlisted for Multiple Awards
We’re excited to share that the Gallows Corner Flyover Refurbishment project has been shortlisted for multiple awards this year. These are the NCE Bridges Awards, Ground Engineering Awards and CIHT Awards for the following categories:
- Ground Engineering – ‘UK Project with a Geotechnical Value of up to £500K’
- NCE Bridges – ‘Road Bridge Project of the Year’
- NCE Bridges – ‘Innovation in Carbon Reduction’
- CIHT – ‘Health and Safety in the Workplace’
The project focuses on reconstructing and modernising the Gallows Corner Flyover, a 13-span elevated structure initially built in the 1970s as a temporary military-designed building. Due to the structure’s age, ongoing deteriorating condition and its continued use on a very busy section of the highway network, renewal became essential to ensure structural functionality and safe performance, and to maintain the traffic flow.
Pell Frischmann developed an innovative and sustainable bespoke solution by utilising the existing piled foundations and using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles for modular construction for both superstructure and substructure systems built off-site. This scheme is an exemplary model of innovative thinking, modern methods of construction and reusing existing foundation elements cost-effectively and sustainably.
Our close collaboration and working relationship with the contractor Costain, the client Transport for London, and the wider supply chain have all contributed to the successful outcome of the project.
Dr Sas Majlessi, our Divisional Director, said:
We’re very proud to be shortlisted for these prestigious awards that celebrate outstanding achievements in civil engineering projects in the built environment across the infrastructure sector. They provide platforms to celebrate excellence in engineering and showcase innovation and good design across the industry.
TThe Ground Engineering Awards and CIHT Awards ceremonies will take place on June 17th 2026, followed by the NCE Bridges Awards ceremony on July 16th 2026, all held in London. We wish all nominees the best of luck!
