Major Regeneration Plan for Folkestone Harbour Approved

Pell Frischmann was thrilled to be part of the Folkestone Harbour regeneration development, which has recently secured planning approval for the redevelopment of the harbour, granted by Folkestone & Hythe District Council.

Folkestone Seafront has a history dating back to the 18th century as a fishing village, with the harbour developed in 1809. It consists of about 14 hectares (35 acres) of mainly vacant land at the southernmost point of the town centre.

The scheme forms part of the Folkestone Harbour and Seafront Masterplan.  This phase plans to build 410 homes and 54 commercial units along Folkestone’s seafront, including development of the popular Goods Yard Big Screen plus small retail outlets, cafes, and restaurant facilities and new public realm. The construction is expected to generate £21 million annually for the local economy, resulting in more than 700 long-term jobs, offering a transformational set of benefits for Folkestone and its residents.

As lead transport and highways consultants on the scheme, we’re proud to have supported Folkestone Harbour and Seafront Development Company with their planning application.

The design will also increase the accessibility of the old railway section across the inner harbour and improve the connectivity to Harbour Square and the town centre.

We look forward to helping bring the vision of the Folkestone Harbour and Seafront Development Company to life, revitalising the harbour while honouring the town’s heritage, creating a lasting legacy for future generations to enjoy.
