Chester-Le-Street Shortlisted for Project of the Year
Pell Frischmann is delighted to announce that Chester-Le-Street Flood Alleviation scheme has been shortlisted for ‘Project of the Year’ at the Constructing Excellence North East (CENE) Awards 2021.
Chester-Le-Street, Durham, has a history of flooding due to surcharging of the long culvert beneath the town centre. Working collaboratively alongside our partners Elvet Chartered Surveyors, Environment Agency and Esh Group for Durham County Council, the team opened up a section of the culvert; this has reduced flood risk from the Chester Burn to keep the local communities and business safe, whilst creating a pleasant social area of blue-green amenity spaces.
Andi Hasalliu, Pell Frischmann’s Project Manager, said:
We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Project of the Year for the CENE Awards. Keeping the community safe from flooding was at the heart of our work throughout the scheme; we’re happy we have delivered a project that alleviates natural disasters and allows local businesses to thrive with confidence.
This scheme was recently awarded the ICE North East Robert Stephenson Award for Medium Project of the Year. To read more about this award win, as well as more on the Chester-Le-Street De-culverting scheme itself, please visit here.
