Ashton Town Centre Regeneration Scheme
Pell Frischmann is pleased to announce its appointment to Wigan Council’s Ashton-in-Makerfield Town Centre Regeneration Scheme #OurFutureAshton, as part of the multi-disciplinary design team led by Gillespies.
The #OurFutureAshton regeneration initiative, will be delivered using £6.6 million Capital Regeneration Project (CRP) funding provided by the government. The project aims to revitalise Ashton-in-Makerfield by prioritising the heart of the town centre, improving the historic market site and bringing it back into use for a range of uses including events, small businesses and space for the community and making the streets more attractive, greener and focusing on improving road safety and accessibility
These enhancements look to increase footfall within the town and support existing and new businesses. Other elements of the project focus on improvements to business premises and shopfronts, art trails and improved lighting around the town centre.
To inform the public realm designs we will use information from a range of studies, including surveys and landownership details to create constraint plans for the design team.
Pell Frischmann will be collaborating with Landscape Architects, Gillespies, to undertake a full review of existing signage and wayfinding. This will allow us to deliver the improvements needed to enhance pedestrianisation and transport safety in the area. Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) will be integrated into the new streetscape to manage surface-water run-off to deliver a sustainable, resilient and improved green environment.
Matthew Davies, Pell Frischmann’s Wales & North West Growth Director said:
“Pell Frischmann are delighted to be working alongside Gillespies to deliver the Ashton in Makerfield town centre streetscape enhancement, regeneration and growth scheme for Wigan Council.
