We’re proud to be supporting Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) with the implementation of three comprehensive cycling and bus priority initiatives to support active travel in Rotherham.
As part of our commitment, we have conducted thorough feasibility studies for three projects and have created Strategic Outline Business Cases (SOBCs) to present to the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA). In addition to that, we have also developed preliminary designs to support the feasibility studies and SOBCs.
Broom Road, Wickersley Road, Stag Roundabout, and Moorgate
The first project involved designing and implementing measures to prioritise cycles and buses along Broom Road and Wickersley Road, as well as enhancing Stag Roundabout.
Additionally, this initiative included implementing traffic calming measures in the Moorgate neighbourhood to manage vehicular speeds, mitigate traffic levels and address local parking concerns.
Fitzwilliam Road, St. Ann’s Roundabout, and Eastwood and Herringthorpe
The second project has seen the design and implementation of cycle and bus priority measures along Fitzwilliam Road. This also includes improvements to St. Ann’s Roundabout, which will be enhanced by replacing the existing subways with at-grade shared-use pedestrian and cycle crossings.
The aim is to enhance social safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, traffic calming measures will be introduced in Eastwood and Herringthorpe, which will help to reduce traffic levels and regulate vehicular speeds.
Ickles Roundabout
Initiative 3, Ickles Roundabout, aims to improve the current road infrastructure by implementing redesign and improvement measures. The project includes the replacement of existing pedestrian subways with pedestrian and shared use crossings, and the integration of bus priority measures into the design.
These steps will enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists while reducing journey times on the surrounding corridors.
We’re excited to be working with RMBC and partners to improve active travel across Rotherham.
