A 5-storey building with a 1-storey basement for teaching and research into Geological Sciences and associated disciplines. The scheme went on to win the ACE Building of the Year Award in 2011 and the South East ICE Sustainability & Community Benefit Award, also in 2011.
The design brief meant the provision of a modern structure with sufficient light and space for students and staff, but also enough stability to house state-of-the-art sensitive research instrumentation.
The use of flat slab post tension technology resulted in a slimmer floor construction which enabled an additional floor to be created. This provided an extra 320sqm of floor space within the office wing. The scheme has gone on to win numerous awards and accolades for innovative design.
