Mark McHutchon

Towards the end of writing up my PhD I was looking for the next step and Pell Frischmann were one of the companies recruiting.  They offered work in a variety of locations and industries and I received a job offer not long after attending interview.

Shortly after joining I got involved in the refurbishment and upgrade of a thermal drying plant in Dublin.  Initially I played a minor role in preparation of some tender documents but over two years made several site visits culminating in a three month period on site assisting the resident engineer during construction and commissioning.  This challenging project was a steep learning curve for me as I developed my knowledge of explosion prevention, process instrumentation and control.

Since then I have worked on a variety of schemes in the water and renewable sectors, notably a number of projects evaluating hydro power potential across the South of England.  This kind of project poses a stimulating technical challenge whilst also providing great satisfaction once the new plant is installed and operating.

Over five years on and I have now progressed to Senior Engineer and take a lead role in delivery of feasibility and detailed design projects, working closely with contractors, suppliers, operations staff and the customer whilst co-ordinating our design work on those projects. My role is varied, challenging and with great potential for the future.

I now live within Exeter and thoroughly enjoy the milder climes and stunning local scenery.  At weekends I can often be found mountain biking on Dartmoor or in the local woods.
