The Office

Our Wakefield office undertakes large scale projects such as the Forth Rail Bridge Structural Maintenance Programme and the Jamaica Highway 2000 scheme, where our geotechnical staff faced challenging ground conditions throughout construction.

We also handle major PFI and DBFO projects, providing facilities and maintenance support to schools in Staffordshire, street lighting in Blackpool and specialist design services to the Highways Agency on the M6 and A1.

Our Wakefield office is also the base of the Traffic and Transportation team who work on projects such as Thorpe Park in Leeds, a 1.8m sq ft business park development and an Area Traffic Control System for over 200 junctions in Mumbai, India.

Senior Engineer - Flood Resilience

 

Main Purpose of the Job

The Flood Resilience and Climate Change team in our Wakefield office is currently recruiting for a Senior Engineer / Project Manager.  The team works on diverse flood resilience, flood alleviation, infrastructure, and environmental projects for a range of private and public sector clients.  As a result of current work and increased project wins, we are seeking an individual to work as part of the growing team delivering these projects providing effective project management and technical input.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

·        Project Management of assigned projects as required with good commercial awareness and financial control

·        Carry out technical and other work as required on assigned projects whilst ensuring high levels of safety, quality and environmental responsibility

·        Technical quality of own and team’s work in accordance with good engineering practice, relevant standards, Codes of Practice, current design methods and Health & Safety legislation

·        Prepare feasibility, designs, design calculations, tender documentation, scheme evaluations, design statements and other reports as identified in the Project Quality Plan on assigned projects

·        Check work including third party design proposals as identified in the Project Quality Plan on assigned projects

·        Carry out other duties identified in the Project Quality Plan on assigned projects

·        Supervise technical work of staff as required by the Department Manager

·        Have a good understanding of all relevant standards, Codes of Practice, Health & Safety Legislation and current design methods and provide general technical support to own discipline team members

·        Assist with the preparation and maintenance of standard specifications as required

·        Engage in client and third party liaison successfully leading to enhanced reputation and repeat work

·        Assist with the promotion of the capabilities of the company to current and prospective clients

·        Comply with internal management system procedures.

 

Essential Qualification 

·        Civil Engineering degree or similar

·        Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (ICE or CIWEM) 

 

Essential Experience     

·        Minimum of 5 years’ experience of water based projects         

·        A solid understanding of engineering gained from working on both construction sites and design offices

·        Previous experience of delivering major civils projects

·        Prepare / assist with the preparation of design statements, tender documents and any other reports identified in the Project Quality Plan on assigned projects.

·        Carry out other duties as identified in the Project Quality Plan on assigned projects.

·        Utilise computer aided design systems, computer design software and other design aids, as required.

·        Have an understanding of all relevant Standards, Codes of Practice, Health & Safety Legislation and current relevant design methods.

·        Carry out site supervision and site surveys as required, subject to site conditions due to disability.

Associate Highways Engineer

Main Purpose of the Job

We are currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Associate to manage an existing team in our Birmingham office and grow our existing Highways design capabilities. Work includes feasibility through to construction for all elements of highway design including bridges, along with various other civil structures projects for a variety of client. The role requires both management and expert technical leadership. The Birmingham Office has been successful in winning large multi-disciplinary long term frameworks and alliances. This coupled with the large multi-disciplinary projects currently being designed will provide a satisfying and rewarding opportunity to shape and grow a developing team of highly motivated engineers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities;

· Experience of Major Projects Management leading design teams and managing resources effectively.

· Extensive experience of leading civil engineering, or multi-discipline, projects with a client facing and work winning role at Project Manager/Director level.

· Ensuring the preparation of highway designs and specifications are of a high quality.

· Chairing client and consultation project meetings

· Over-seeing the preparation/preparing technical reports, fee proposals, bids, budgets, resource levels and all associated HSE, CDM and QA aspects

· Winning new work through consolidating existing client relationships and new clients.

· Responsibility for ensuring all projects are completed in a timely and cost effective way and ensuring the Job Financial Summary is regularly updated and correct.

Qualifications

· Detailed understanding of major highways and infrastructure schemes  using Design Manual for Bridges, British Standards and other codes

· Ideally with have previous experience of an engineering consultancy

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

What we are looking for:

We are looking for an experienced geotechnical engineer with good interpretative reporting and geotechnical design skills e.g. shallow foundations, piles, retaining walls.

Duties will include design and management of ground investigations, preparation of desk studies and interpretative reporting, problem solving, foundation design and slope stability assessments. Responsibilities will also include training and support of younger team members, project management, liaison with clients (both externally and internally from other sectors/offices).

You will need:

-A Degree in engineering geology, civil engineering or similar.

-Post graduate degree (MSc/MEng) in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, soil mechanics, foundation engineering etc.

- 5 years+ of relevant post-graduate experience.

-Be at or approaching chartered status (CEng / CGeol).

-Working knowledge of relevant British Standards and familiarity with UK soils and rock.

-Working knowledge of Word, Excel and geotechnical software.

-Have excellent written and spoken English.

-Hold a clean UK driving licence.

-CSCS card and PTS an advantage.

Projects include rail, highways, infrastructure and development with clients including developers, major contractors, local authorities, major infrastructure suppliers and Network Rail.

Assistant Technician


Main Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the team Engineer or Senior Technician the Assistant Technician will provide technical support in the delivery of highway infrastructure, and highway improvement works.

 

Under the guidance of an experienced member of staff you;

·        Will be part of a well-established team and play a vital role in the delivery of projects locally, regionally and nationally

·        Will develop engineering skills relating to civil engineering & highway design which will include the use of 2D and 3D drawing and modelling techniques.

Senior/Traffic Signal Design Engineer

The Wakefield office of Pell Frischmann was established over 30 years ago and has a long established reputation in providing traffic signal solutions for both developers and local Authorities whether a single junction or a complex network is being implemented or enhanced. The office is located just a stroll from the City Centre and within a 10 minute walk of both Westgate and Kirkgate Rail Stations.

 

The team is involved from scheme inception and design through to acceptance testing and commissioning on site. The current workload includes the Blackpool Tramway extension, Birmingham tramway extensions, schemes for local Authorities across Northern Eng/and. We also support other PFoffices with our specialist services.


Main Purpose of the Job

 

An exciting opportunity for someone with experience of working with local authorities and traffic signal subcontractors. The team is involved from scheme Inception and design through to acceptance testing and commissioning on site. The current workload includes the Btackpool Tramway extension, Birmingham tramway extensions, schemes for Local Authorities across Northern England. We also support other PF offices with our specialist services.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

·        The role entails AutoCAD layout design, TR2500 specification writing, MOVA design, SCOOT & UTCdatabase experience and project management.

·        Technical lead and mentoring of less experienced staff.

·        Excellent understanding of junction and network analysis software and report writing skills.

·        Must maintain good understanding of all relevant standards, H&S Legislation and current relevant design methods.

Qualifications:

 

·        HNC plus Minimum


Experience:

 

·        5 years' experience in traffic signal design

·        The candidate must have experience of a variety of traffic signal projects including lInslg / Transyt modelling, junction, crossing and network analysis and design.

·        Experience of lInslg / Transyt is desirable.

·        Experienced In modelling and design utilising L1NSIG/TRANSYT software specification (TR2500) writing and the Implementation of SCOOT UTC/MOVA installations including acceptance testing, commissioning and validation
