London is where Pell Frischmann began 90 years ago and peppered throughout the capital are buildings that we have designed. Our head office in London's west-end is still the base from which we carry out much of our national and international work.

Recent structural projects in London include the new Kingsgate House and Zig Zag Building as part of Land Securities regeneration of London's Victoria; the recently completed Blavatnik School of Government for the University of Oxford, working with Herzog and de Meuron Architects and the new Centre for Children's Disease Research for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We also carry out work in a range of other sectors, including traffic and transportation, rail, highways and infrastructure planning. We are very busy with Transport for London, HS1 and various private developers for major London sites.

The Opportunities 


Geotechnical Engineer/Senior Geotechnical Engineer

 What we are looking for:

We are looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with drive and enthusiasm, and who is able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of geotechnical engineering.  You must be able to demonstrate experience in the design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls and slope stability and to have experience in the preparation of desk studies, and the design and reporting of ground investigations.   

The role will offer you exposure to a large range of project work and liaison with clients (both externally and internally from other sectors/offices).

You will need:

·        A Degree in Civil Engineering.


·        A post graduate degree (MSc/MEng) in geotechnical engineering or affiliated subject, and/or proven experience as a Consultant Geotechnical Engineer.

·        3 years+ of relevant post-graduate experience.

·        Be approaching or working towards chartered status (CEng / MICE).

·        Experience with a focus on the detailed design of shallow and deep foundations, embedded retaining walls, deep excavations and ground movement analysis.


·        Experience in ground investigation design, specification and implementation.


·        A working knowledge of geotechnical software such as WALLAP, Pdisp and PLAXIS is desirable.

·        A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with good communication skills and report writing.

CSCS card and PTS would be an advantage.

Senior Infrastructure Engineer

·        Civil Engineer specialising in Foul and Surface Water Drainage design

IT Administrator 

The position:

Due to the current Administrator leaving we are looking for a new IT Administrator to support the manager in running Pell Frishmann's South East Region IT Systems & Services which have a total Circa of 150 users

What we are looking for:

  • The right person will be required to be hands on.
  • Have strong Wintel experience.
  • Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems
  • Act in alignment with user needs and system functionality to contribute to organizational policy
  • Identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions.
  • Preserve assets, information security and control structures.
  • Hands on knowledge of the procedures used in the installation, modification maintenance and repair of Dell and HP Server Hardware and excellent working knowledge of RAID.

Project Administrator

Based in our London office you will provide Project administration and planning support to project managers delivering Bridge Design and Assessment projects. You will help with local Audits to drive compliance and efficiency of project delivery. You will also act as the Local Quality representative.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Senior Structural Engineer

Main Purpose of the Job

The Senior Engineer will be required to do hands on design and be able to lead projects teams. The Senior Engineer will produce documentation suitable for each of the key RIBA stages (and, by implication, Building Control submission.

Main Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Participate heavily in early stage scheming and be familiar with typical depth to span ratios and other features of economical design. They should be able to determine the scope of services and design requirements from non-technical briefings (i.e. architectural drawings) and have an awareness of a range of possible solutions to structural problems.
  • Undertake site visits to determine existing building geometry, condition of accessible structure, and inspect anything else that might be relevant when carrying out design for any plausible alterations.
  • Read and interpret geotechnical reports as required for structural design.
  • Utilise BIM, computer design software and other design aids as required and feedback fixes to software problems and best practice through the engineering forum.
  • Possibly including: Analysis: (Scia, Etabs, Solve ) Concrete: (RAM Concept, Prokon) Steel: (Fastrak) and other proprietary software that may be relevant.
  • Attend design meetings/workshops to present and discuss your work.


  • MEng/MSc academic qualifications in civil/structural engineering;
  • Chartered or near chartered


  • Min of 6 years’ experience
  • Working on High Rise buildings
  • Experience in design both residential and commercial buildings
  • Experience of design and construction of concrete, steel, timber and masonry structures
  • Previous experience of an engineering organisation


  • 2-D and 3-D structural software packages
  • Competent in the design and analysis of high structures using Etabs (essential for this particular role).

 Technical Director - Structures


Main Purpose of the job:

Reporting to the Office Director you will be required to manage / lead the structural building services elements of complex or highly technical projects and assist with delivery of projects within the build sectors as well as providing line management to a group of highly motivated, developing engineers.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaise with repeat clients and new opportunities win work to support the team.
  • Lead a team in delivering prestigious design projects
  • Encouraged to drive innovative ideas on projects and market the results to the project team, to your own team and through press. You are encouraged to promote these further through external technical presentation and awards.
  • Promote the use of best practice to your team and the company both through projects, via CPD’s and equally share near misses with the wider company to promote continuous improvement.
  • Develop specialist design capabilities and share these with the team to support the business plan.
  • Look for opportunities to develop both your and the company’s capabilities and brand by developing and sharing your design/analysis skills both internally and externally and by representing us within industry to market our skills


  • A chartered engineer or fellow holding either a UK or international professional membership (i.e. C.Eng) in a professional body (IStructE or ICE typically)
