London is where Pell Frischmann began 90 years ago and peppered throughout the capital are buildings that we have designed. Our head office in London's west-end is still the base from which we carry out much of our national and international work.

Recent structural projects in London include the new Kingsgate House and Zig Zag Building as part of Land Securities regeneration of London's Victoria; the recently completed Blavatnik School of Government for the University of Oxford, working with Herzog and de Meuron Architects and the new Centre for Children's Disease Research for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We also carry out work in a range of other sectors, including traffic and transportation, rail, highways and infrastructure planning. We are very busy with Transport for London, HS1 and various private developers for major London sites.

The Opportunities 

Senior Transport Planner 


Main Purpose of the Job


We are looking for a Senior Transport Planner to join a growing division to help deliver projects for local and regional clients such as Highways England, Network Rail, Luton County Council, Centro and SPAT. You will support the preparation, development and analysis of transport models and the production of appraisals and data reports for a range of major and minor projects.



Main Duties and Responsibilities


·        Assist the Senior staff and take on technical responsibility of transport project delivery, including trip generation and highway capacity modelling, travel planning and transport strategies

·        Input to transport planning, strategy, business case, and research projects, and multi-disciplinary projects for a variety of project types, sizes and client types

·        Prepare technical reports and other project outputs

·        Implement Traffic and Transport methodologies in consultation with senior colleagues

·        Prepare high quality reports and technical notes

·        Liaise with clients/contractors and local / national authorities as required

·        Resolve problems or issues to support the delivery of projects or design objectives

·        When required, act as a mentor to junior staff

·        Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation in working practices



Essential Experience


·        A minimum of 5 years of Transport Planning experience (the level of experience will determine what level you come in as).

·        Experience in completing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans for residential and mixed-use developments

·        Experience in highway / junction design at least at the concept design level

·        An able user of Arcady, Picady, LinSig, TranSyt, TRICS, TRAVL, Tempro, AutoCAD, Autotrack

·        Experience of working with public and private sector clients

·        Experience in working within a team environment in undertaking large strategic modelling projects

·        Efficient communication skills, excellent level of written and spoken English


Preferred Experience


·        Experience in scoping/appraisal of traffic/pedestrian surveys

·        Experience in dealing with S38 and S278 Agreements

·        Project Management in a range of projects at both low and higher values

·        Able user of SATURN, Legion modelling, Vissim and Civil3D is an advantage


Essential Qualification


·        Degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, Planning or a related subject (essential).

Preferred Qualification


·        MSc in Transport Planning/Engineering

·        Chartered or working towards membership

Senior Structural Engineer


Main Purpose of the Job

The Senior Engineer will be required to do hands on design and be able to lead projects teams. The Senior Engineer will produce documentation suitable for each of the key RIBA stages (and, by implication, Building Control submission.


Main Duties and Responsibilities;

              Participate heavily in early stage scheming and be familiar with typical depth to span ratios and other features of economical design. They should be able to determine the scope of services and design requirements from non-technical briefings (i.e. architectural drawings) and have an awareness of a range of possible solutions to structural problems.

           Undertake site visits to determine existing building geometry, condition of accessible structure, and  inspect anything else that might be relevant when carrying out design for any plausible alterations.

           Read and interpret geotechnical reports as required for structural design.

           Utilise BIM, computer design software and other design aids as required and feedback fixes to software problems and best practice through the engineering forum.

           Possibly including:

Analysis: (Scia, Etabs, Solve )
Concrete: (RAM Concept, Prokon)
Steel: (Fastrak)
and other proprietary software that may be relevant.

           Attend design meetings/workshops to present and discuss your work.



           MEng/MSc academic qualifications in civil/structural engineering;

           Chartered or near chartered          



           Min of 6 years’ experience

           Working on High Rise buildings

           Experience in design both residential and commercial buildings

           Experience of design and construction of concrete, steel, timber and masonry structures

           Previous experience of an engineering organisation



           2-D and 3-D structural software packages

           Competent in the design and analysis of high structures using Etabs (essential for this particular role).

 Geotechnical Engineer/Senior Geotechnical Engineer

 What we are looking for:

We are looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with drive and enthusiasm, and who is able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of geotechnical engineering.  You must be able to demonstrate experience in the design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls and slope stability and to have experience in the preparation of desk studies, and the design and reporting of ground investigations.   

The role will offer you exposure to a large range of project work and liaison with clients (both externally and internally from other sectors/offices).

You will need:

·        A Degree in Civil Engineering.


·        A post graduate degree (MSc/MEng) in geotechnical engineering or affiliated subject, and/or proven experience as a Consultant Geotechnical Engineer.

·        3 years+ of relevant post-graduate experience.

·        Be approaching or working towards chartered status (CEng / MICE).

·        Experience with a focus on the detailed design of shallow and deep foundations, embedded retaining walls, deep excavations and ground movement analysis.


·        Experience in ground investigation design, specification and implementation.


·        A working knowledge of geotechnical software such as WALLAP, Pdisp and PLAXIS is desirable.

·        A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with good communication skills and report writing.

CSCS card and PTS would be an advantage.
